Special Opportunities and Events

North Central District Intercollegiate Band - "The Premier Performance Ensemble of the North Central District"

The North Central District Intercollegiate Band (NCDIB) continues to be an integral part of our Convention programming. This ensemble, composed of brothers and sisters from across the NCD, made its debut at the 2009 NCD Convention in Toledo, Ohio. This fine program will allow you to grow musically and to afford yourself an unmatched opportunity to participate in a musical ensemble with numerous brothers and sisters of varying backgrounds from nearly every corner of the district. We encourage every chapter member to consider this wonderful opportunity.
Please visit the NCDIB page for application information and archived performance programs.

North Central District Reading Band and Color Guard Clinic

Bring your instrument and silks, because the Reading Band and Color Guard Clinic are always huge hits at the North Central District convention! Be sure to sign up for one of these two groups during your registration process. These free additions to your convention experience are truly great ways to bond with brothers and sisters, pick up some new performance techniques, and showcase the musicianship and dedication to bands for which the North Central District is known!

Student Conductor Clinic

This event is only for those who applied for the Student Conducting Program. It is an opportunity for them to work with collegiate band directors to prepare to conduct the Reading Band. This event is open to Brothers and Sisters.

Band Director Forum

This event is intended for Brothers and Sisters to interact with band directors in attendance. This is an opportunity to not only ask about music education, but to find new ways for chapters to assist college and university bands from the perspective of the band director. Truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity, bring your questions about how to better serve your bands and about the lives of professional music educators!

NCD Jazz Reading Band

For the first time, you can participate in a Jazz Reading Band at convention! This band will read through some jazz classics, as well as some more modern pieces. Unfortunately, this band will have a instrument-based participant cap, so register early to ensure your spot!

Anything But Instruments Band

The North Central District is hosting an Anything But Instruments Band, where members of both organizations will be able to focus on musical achievement without the pressure of technical skill- no one can use instruments! Some props, like pool noodles, dinner plates, boxes, etc. will be provided, and members will be encouraged to bring their own “instrument” for this workshop. Music will be modified from percussion ensemble pieces, but members will be tasked with deciding instrumentation.

Membership Candidates At Convention

Please note that the leadership teams for the North Central District of both Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma require an approved list of membership candidates for your chapter prior to allowing their admission to the convention. This list can be provided on-site in a written format on official university letterhead, or be sent as an email directly from your Chapter Sponsor or Director of Bands. The email for submission of Kappa Kappa Psi candidates is [email protected], and submissions for Tau Beta Sigma should be directed to [email protected].
